Look it’s November again… Then it is time to remember the movie Sweet November from 2001. Let’s remember that sad love story, featuring Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron, that had to last in one November and as always talk about love in this November again.
The Story Of A Traumatic Love
“I didn’t know what falling in love means. In fact, I had no idea that I didn’t know this.
A story of a little girl who lost her father… Fathers that were once there disappearing quickly and the traumas they leave behind. Impossible to love anyone anymore, falling in love with the wrong guys, wrong choices one after another just to be loved, ruining own life…”
Kursat Basar wrote these lines for a heroine called ‘Ebru’ in his last novel ‘Aklımda Hep Sen’.
Basar’s novel ‘Aklimda Hep Sen’, successfully blended with psychology, seems to be Ebru’s story but it is in fact a recipe of love that we all can find many things from ourselves.
Can The Pangs Of Love Be Soothed?
The ecstasy of love knocks you off your feet but its pain reduces you to rags. Psychoanalyst Patrick Avrane portrays those who survived pangs of love as heroes and views it from a different standpoint in his book ‘Les Chagrins D’amour’. Avrane says we idealize the loved one as reflection of our desires. Using quotes by Freud, Lacan and Goethe, he shows that the pangs of love awakens us and makes us face ourselves.
We should pay attention to Avrane who says we love our ‘selves’ in love. Who knows, perhaps it is not the love but your own scars that hurt you much?
A Life-Long Love
Ok, November is sweet, but what about Paris? Paris When It Sizzles, a 1964 movie, performed by Audrey Hepburn and William Holden, portrays a romantic love based on ‘Audrey and Bill’ by Edward Z. Epstein.
In this biography, the life stories of these two stars of the screen shed light on Hollywood of the 1950s and 1960s.
This book, written by testimony of many people, from movie photographer Bob Willoughby who says “Everybody was in love with Audrey, but nobody was in love more than Bill” to Academy-Awarded Director Billy Wilder, shows how the relationship between two stars makes lasting impacts on their lives as well as the others’ around them.
In the book “Audrey and Bill”, we witness that even though a love story sometimes ends or even it is platonic and never truly requited, it still may last a lifetime.
