Fitness was once a simple method of staying fit, losing weight and building muscle, but the case is not the same in the present time. New technologies are spreading, and outdated training methods are renewed or updated with different techniques.
As a response to these updates, the 13th Worldwide Survey of Fitness for 2019 conducted by The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) presents the most appropriate trends in commercial, clinical, social and corporate sectors for the next year. The rising four macro fitness categories will be determined with the results of this survey. What are the outcomes of this transformation?
- Wearable Fitness Technology
- Group Trainings
- High Intensity Interval Trainings (HIIT)
- Medical and Regular Fitness Programs for Adults
Wearable Fitness Technology
Wearable technology consists of smart watches, heart rate monitors and GPS tracking devices. Wearable technologies emerged as a great trend in a worldwide survey conducted in 2016. These tracking devices’ ability to track and store the biometric data enables people to check and improve their training results in time. In addition, the cross connection between the devices and online applications increases the rate of participation to trainings with a greater competition. Races, games, application-based connection and increased artificial intelligence features form a brand new digital environment that encourages users to improve their physical condition and do their best. According to the latest survey, the popular fitness applications offer vocal and visual content to help modern users perform their training activities, which provides full freedom to users in their training sessions.
Group Training Sessions
Participants of group training sessions are thought to be more motivated than those performing personal activities. Such an experience can work miracles for users who are motivated to train in an attractive environment. In addition, people prefer larger group classes to smaller groups because larger training groups offer a great way to socialize and compete with a larger group of people. A healthy competition increases the training frequency and acts as a method to continue participating in the courses.
High Intensity Interval Trainings (HIIT)
As its name suggests, HIIT consist of short-term high intensity exercises typically performed at short intervals. The key point in HIIT is related to the efficiency of training time. HIIT can only be performed in short sessions due to high intensity. Users generally prefer shorter but harder training options with more visible results to longer and easier sessions. As implied by the worldwide survey, this point of view is criticized by certain members of scientific society because short and intense trainings can be performed improperly, or these sessions can cause greater physical pressure. Thus, new HIIT training formats are based on a strict theoretical framework or safety precautions.
Medical and Regular Fitness Programs for Adults
Although the efforts to lose weight and become thinner are always motivating in the summer, people do not feel the need to lose weight and be thin just to look slim any more. Instead, they focus on feeling more healthy and staying more active. Thus, they obtain advices from certified fitness professionals who can guide them in controlling their health with diet and training suggestions.
